THE STORY: Our Sonoma vineyard’s name was inspired by the Siegert family’s fond memories at a beautiful hacienda named La Cienega near Quito, Ecuador. For 20 years we have grown premium Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Recently, Managing Partner Katja S. Newman met local California businesswoman, Nicole Trutanich of Bar au Chocolat.
Nicole sources Ecuador’s native cacao beans for her hand crafted dark chocolate. The cacao, which comes from an estate in Arriba Nacional in the Cerecita Valley, is rich and soulful with flavors of honeysuckle, cashew, and green olive. It pairs exquisitely with our Cabernet Sauvignon (tasting notes attached), complementing its notes of dark berries, black plum, and toasted vanilla.
La Cienega is a family-owned and operated, certified sustainable vineyard in the southern hills of renowned Alexander Valley, just off Chalk Hill Road.
